What is the Inverter technology in air conditioners ?

An invert-er technology is related  to the compersser type .So,here my concern is only the Invert-er 

technology .Invert-er technology is the compersser of type which is continuously in running condition  after the plug in and never cut off but adjust there speed automatically so it is saving the cut-off power consumption .but  it will be better foe you when your ac is running more than 12 hours per day .whereas in normal or rotary compresser type ac is cutt-off on regular interval so it is more power consuming .
